This document demonstrates how to use GarageBand, an easy-to use, yet very powerful program, in the general music classroom to teach many musical skills and concepts along with providing basic skills in using music software. The key to working with music technology programs is the design of the curriculum. Most students are quite familiar with computers and can dive right in and figure out how to operate a program like GarageBand. That means step-by-step instruction is out. Instead consider project-based learning. A well-designed project will guide students to develop skills and concepts in such a way that they will retain the information. Sample projects, short cuts, and a short section on assessment are included.
